Perrin

Perrin, George Henry

George Henry Perrin, my Grandfather, was born on 14th Jul 1858 in East Collingwood, Victoria and died on 14th Apr 1936 in Deniliquin, NSW.

He was a Justice of the Peace (Vic & NSW), Builder, Undertaker, former owner of the “Deniliquin Chronicle”, NSW Press Assoc. Member, former Mayor of Deniliquin (1900) Independent Candidate (not successful around 1907+), a Grand Master of a Deni Freemason’s Lodge and a NSW Delegate for the Federal Convention (1891) .

Parents Mark Perrin and Marianne Jones arrived in Melbourne Australia on the “Thames” in 1852. They lost a girl child born on board but at journey’s end they found themselves left with a girl whose mother had died in birth on board.

George Henry and 5 other children were born in Australia between 1854 and 1866. When George’s mother (Marianne) died in 1885, he tried in vain to let the Dadge, Jones & Perrin families, still in the UK, know. I have copies of his letters, and you can see them too on the post to the left. What a wonderful person he was!

The Perrin family reunion held in Deniliquin, NSW in 2011 was a great success. It was beaut to catch up with those still living there and to meet others, some for the first time, whose families had moved away since the first Perrin settled there 150 years ago. Cousin Wayne Bradley O.A.M. (2007) had the new school hall named in his honour, the family featured in the Twilight Cemetery Walk and the “Back to Deniliquin” celebrations rounded off a great 2 weeks.
