DNA is a “mystery solver” and how grateful am I that in this lifetime I have, with help, solved 3-4 “MAJOR” mysteries. One involves this family, now part of our bigger family tree. 

Victorian Legal papers have American Trade Commisioner Elmer Pauly, stationed in Melb. as the father of Marie Bryant (nee  a Broadhurst adoptee). In fact he paid maintenance for the child after leaving the country as demanded by the courts. 

He was NOT the father as you will see below: 

Marie Theresa Cecilia Manktelow (adopted by Syd and Josie Broadhurst.)

Manktelow, Mabel Winifred Mary. Pianist/Performer Melb. Tiv. 1920’s Mother of Marie.

Hinshelwood, AKA Sempill, Charles Ignatius. Father of Marie.

The Sempill’s and the Hinshelwood’s are confusingly related and inter-twined.
